One starry night the body of a young man, still strapped into his airplane seat, falls from the sky into the yard of Harold and Elsie’s farm, a bizarre occurrence that initiates a profound transformation in the lives of the rural hosts.
“Falling: A Wake, by Gary Kirkham, is a haunting and surprisingly funny play about love, loss, and the redemptive power of letting go,” says a release from the Chemainus Theatre Festival (CTF).
The two-person performance will be in the more intimate setting of the ‘studio stage’.
This is the third Kirkham play produced by CTF, the other two being Queen Milli of Galt and the adaptation of Easter (August Strindberg).
In this production of Falling: A Wake Karen Johnson-Diamond makes her Chemainus Theatre Festival debut as Elsie, while Michael Peng, as Harold, returns to the Studio Stage, where he also performed in the inaugural production of Freud’s Last Session.
Falling: A Wake opens Aug. 17 and runs to Aug. 27. Tickets are $27 (including taxes), and can be booked online at chemainustheatre.ca or by calling the box office at 1-800-565-7738.
