Festival celebrates the British

Annual event features music, food and car show

The British invade Beban Park this weekend for the annual festival of all things English.

The third annual British Heritage Festival includes more than six hours of entertainment from classic cars, dancers and musicians Saturday (July 2) in the social centre.

The popular British Classic Car Show returns for another year, as does entertainment from Morris Dancing from Victoria.

Younger Than Yesterday, a British invasion band, plays music of the 1960s, while two comedic performances round out the day.

Nanaimo’s own British club offers a traditional Punch and Judy puppet show, while Eric McQuillan, B.C.’s best British pub entertainer, offers three performances throughout the day.

McQuillan usually has the audience singing and dancing to a medley of pub favourites played on the keyboard.

As always, British food will be featured at the event, including bacon butties, pies and mushy peas.

Traditional entertainment begins in the afternoon, with the bands beginning at 4 p.m. Admission is $10; $7/seniors; free/children.

Entry reduced to $5 at 4 p.m. for the bands.

Two for $10 discounts are available at the British Shop, located at 7221 Lantzville Rd. More information is available at www.britishheritagefestival.com.
