Kathy Johnson of Rainy Bay describes her first novel, Trusting Bamboo Bridges, as “a memoir gone mad.”
The book follows Canadian medical technician Kelley Simons to a refugee camp on the Thai-Burmese border and the trouble she finds.
The settings and many of the events are drawn from Johnson’s own experiences, including eight years with Médicins Sans Frontières.
Barrie Farrell of Nanaimo has released an autobiography, Boats in My Blood: A Life in Boat Building, chronicling the life of who some say is B.C.’s most prolific and colourful boat builders.
Both authors are at bookstores Saturday.
