Foundation helps youth reach goals in performing art

The Cowichan Valley Performing Arts Foundation has awarded over $6000 in bursaries

The Cowichan Valley Performing Arts Foundation has awarded over $6000 in bursaries to 18 local youth in the performing arts.

Formed in 2012 to help local families mitigate financial barriers to their children’s participation in performing arts, the Foundation helps fund activities such as music lessons, dance, acting, musical theatre, band and more.

Bursaries for travel and conference fees are also available for students wishing to further their education.

The Foundation aims to support Cowichan kids, 18 years and under, in all corners of the region.

Throughout CVPAF’s first three years, bursaries have been awarded to a broad spectrum of artists – from preschoolers registering for introductory classes, all the way to accomplished teens, some of whom are  competing at very high levels and representing Cowichan at provincial and national events.

“We have some remarkable and highly deserving performers in Cowichan; however, demand continues to exceed our financial resources,” said Boudreau, noting that the total amount requested for this latest round of funding was well over $10,000.

“We are exceptionally grateful for the continued support of the Cowichan Valley Regional District, City of Duncan, Municipality of North Cowichan and all of our private donors as we endeavor to grow and strengthen our organization.”

The Foundation welcomes new members and volunteers in whatever capacity they are able to give – from signing up for an annual membership at just $25 per year, to spending a few hours per month lending a hand at fundraising events, or even joining the Board of Directors.

CVPAF is a registered charity under the Canada Revenue Act – tax receipts are issued for donations of $20 or more. For more information, email info@cvperformingarts.ca.

The Foundation will be holding its Annual General Meeting on Monday, Sept. 28, 7:30 p.m. at Queen Margaret’s School, 660 Brownsey Avenue, Duncan. Anyone interested in supporting Cowichan kids in the arts is  invited to attend.
