Entries are being accepted for ARTS 2014, an annual juried exhibition of visual arts at the Surrey Art Gallery.
The yearly competition, which celebrates established and emerging artists, includes an array of art in a variety of media, from painting, glasswork and photography to printmaking, pottery and fibre arts.
Over the history of the annual juried show, organized by the Arts Council of Surrey and Surrey Art Gallery, the artwork has continued to reflect both the diversity of the region’s artists, and the issues and ideas that inform contemporary life and contemporary art.
Independent jurors – usually a Surrey Art Gallery curator, a Kwantlen Polytechnic University fine arts professor and a local well-respected artist – on first entering the rooms filled with artworks for consideration, are struck by the wide range of entries and realize choosing pieces for the exhibition will be challenging.
Two of last year’s jurors, Brian Foreman and Suzanne Northcott, said, “All of those who come to view the exhibition reinforce the importance of having art in our lives, and of celebrating art from the Metro Vancouver region.”
ARTS 2014 takes place June 28 to Aug. 30, with an opening reception June 27, 7-9 p.m.
The submission deadline for entry forms is May 21, 4 p.m. Forms can be downloaded at www.artscouncilofsurrey.ca, or call 604-594-2700 or email info@artscouncilofsurrey.ca
