Rita Giesbrecht, former 100 Mile House and District representative for the Central Interior Regional Arts Council (CIRAC), stepped up her involvement with the organization in May by taking on the position of president.
One of her first projects is to oversee a cultural mapping of the area, which will help identify the organization’s strengths and weaknesses and gaps that need filling.
This will be done through a survey that will go out to as much of the artists sector that can be reached, she says.
“We want to know where our artists see the greatest potential and need for support.”
All artists in the region are urged to participate in the survey and this can be done by e-mailing Giesbrecht a request at rita@chrisharris.com.
She has a busy year ahead of her, with plans to hit the road and meet with arts councils within the CIRAC district.
She also sees value in partnering with other agencies, such as tourism.
“We’d like to generate a localized economy around the arts. There are so many creative partnerships to be found and we’re excited about the possibilities.
“There’s a lot of unrealized potential in this area and we’d like to generate something from it.”
