Goldilocks to stand trial

Grade 5 to 7 students from Enderby’s M.V. Beattie Elementary School present The Trial of Goldilocks as part of Arts and Culture Week.

She ate a baby bear’s porridge, broke his chair, and slept in his bed, and now Goldilocks is going on trial for her misdeeds.

Approximately 20 Grade 5 to 7 students from Enderby’s M.V. Beattie Elementary School, under the direction of their school principal Carl Cooper, are presenting The Trial of Goldilocks Thursday.

Co-presented with the Enderby and District Arts Council (EDAC), the play is in celebration of Arts and Culture Week in B.C., which runs from today to Saturday, when thousands of events will take place all over the province to highlight how arts and culture enrich lives on a daily basis.

Heart-wrenching and emotional, The Trial of Goldilocks reminds all that there are always two sides to every story.

It involves three bears and a girl who makes many bad choices in life – and pays for it when she is charged with break and enter, theft (of porridge), destruction of property (chair) and illegal use of a bed.

“The arts council hopes you will support these young actors by your presence,” said EDAC member Alyson Witts. “Who knows? One of them might be the next Christopher Plummer or Sonja Smits.”

Thursday’s production starts at 6 p.m. in the school gym, 1308 Sicamous St., Enderby.  Doors open at 5:45 p.m. and EDAC volunteers will provide and serve refreshments when all the drama is over, at approximately 7:10 p.m.

Admission is by cash or items for the Enderby Food Bank – a good way to help restock their bare shelves. More information is available by calling Karen at 250-838-0626.
