Nanaimo singer Mikaila Tombe, 15, was judged the best out of more than 100 singers who applied for the 2012 Remax Island Star Search. Tombe, who attends the Arts Academy at Dover Bay Secondary School, took top honours in the gala event at the McPherson Playhouse in Victoria with her rendition of Hallelujah, by Leonard Cohen. Her private music teacher, Doug Dodd, accompanied her on piano. She won a song and music video production by DBBI Studios in Victoria.
