Joyful sounds from Zimbabwe at Saturday’s Highlands Music Coffee House

This month's concert features the Mufaro Marimba Ensemble

The Highland Music Coffee House comes alive with the sounds of Zimbabwe this Saturday (July 9). The Mufaro Marimba Ensemble will perform as part of a series of concerts at Caleb Pike House at 1589 Millstream Rd.

Mufaro means joy in Shona, the language of the originators of a style of music that has its roots in Zimbabwe. Bernie Martinwood, Jen Mutch, Dana Barber, Lizanne Chicanot, Barb Roberts, Marti Wood, Dawne Kirwan and guest Chad DeCorte will play instruments originally fashioned and refined around 1960, creating a style of music popular with all ages that has been likened to polyrhythmic parts that fit together like a puzzle. Admission is $5 for adults, and free for children under 15.
