The producers of a locally-made and award-winning TV pilot have just launched a fundraising campaign to produce their second episode.
McLink Enterprises and TechYou Media are seeking $95,000 through the crowd funding initiative Kickstarter to produce episode two of La Fontaine.
The Okanagan produced TV pilot was recipient of the Best Drama Award in the International Pilots Competition at the 2011 Banff World Media Festival.
“We’ve been getting lots of calls about where the show is headed and how we’d like to move forward. It’s a very exciting time” said M.F. (Matt) McDowell, the Lavington-based writer and director of La Fontaine.
The pilot ended leaving a lot of unanswered questions, which McDowell says will be answered in episode two.
Filmed around the Okanagan in 2011, La Fontaine is a modern, gothic, one-hour drama about a family who moves to a small town that is riddled with a secret culture of natural and unnatural genetic manipulation.
The pilot was also nominated for Best Drama as well as Best Writer for McDowell at the International Television Festival in Los Angeles.
For episode two, McDowell says he is bringing out the big guns, namely David Howard, screenwriter on the hit movie Galaxy Quest (starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman.) Howard will co-write episode two with McDowell if the Kickstarter campaign is successful, and McDowell says he hopes to make four episodes a year if their goals are reached.
“The money will go towards the cast and crew because they so selflessly slaved themselves out for the first episode, it would be nice to give them something for the second. Other expenses include equipment rental, locations, food, editing, insurance and transportation costs,” said McDowell.
The pilot for La Fontaine is now available for public viewing at lafontainetv.com.
