Wacky birds, crazy reptiles and funny fish – kids can create them all at a children’s clay sculpture class at the Campbell River Art Gallery this March.
Children aged seven to 12 will transform clay into fun and funky sculptures under guidance from experienced artist Mary Deveau in a class called Creatures of Another Nature, Wednesdays from March 6 to March 27.
The class, which runs from 3:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. each session, is designed to challenge creativity and spark the imagination. Participants will become familiar with the pinch, coil and slab methods of clay sculpture and will use tools to carve and create textures. Their pieces will be bisque-fired, and students will then use acrylic paint to add colour to their creations.
Deveau is a Campbell River-based artist who works in ceramics and painting. She teaches art programs in area schools and has exhibited throughout the Comox Valley and in the Sooke Fine Arts Show. She graduates from the Emily Carr University Fine Arts program this year. Deveau is fascinated by Vancouver Island marine life and her sculptures of seals are featured in a number of North Island venues. The cost for Creatures of Another Nature with Mary Deveau is $75.50 for members of the Campbell River Art Gallery and $85.50 for non-members. All supplies and kiln firing are included. Stop by the Campbell River Art Gallery Tuesday to Saturday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., call 250-287-2261, email programs@crartgallery.ca or check out www.crartgallery.ca.
