Terry Gillespie attend university to study chemical engineering but it was music that moved his soul.
Canadian-born and American raised, Gillespie played with legendary blues musicians such as Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy and John Lee Hooker while living in Detroit. He continued playing after returning to Canada and was part of the cultural dissemination of American blues music in Canada.
He brings his music to Headliners in Nanaimo Friday (May 20) at 8 p.m.
Two decades after leaving music, Gillespie returns with his semi-biographical album Brother of the Blues and backed by the Granary Band, a group of musicians with solid reputations in their own right.
Dubbed by critics as the king of roots music, Brother of the Blues is his first recording in many, many years and is an amalgam of all of his influences and more picked up along the way.
Tickets $15/advance from Headliners; $20/door. Please call 250-753-2323.
