If you want something to TALK about, look no further than Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU).
Third Age Learning at Kwantlen (TALK) has just released its fall program of courses as well as topics for its Philosophers’ Corners, which run the gamut at KPU Langley from obesity to compassionate conflict resolution.
“We strive for variety and we have really accomplished it this year; where else can you learn about Bach flower remedies one week, and the role of sugar and fat on the body the next?” said TALK chairperson Dr. Robin Heath.
Heath stresses that there are no quizzes, grades or prerequisites – just the joy of learning something new and meeting interesting people. Although attendees are encouraged to share their own perspectives on topics, the sessions will also appeal to anyone interested in listening to new and often controversial ideas and learning new things.
“It’s all very civilized, but that isn’t code for ‘boring,’ Heath said.
“In fact, the opposite is true.”
For example, guest presenter Heike Walker will present at KPU Langley on Oct. 19 on the use of Bach flower remedies to manage stress, irritability, nervousness and low self-esteem.
On Nov. 16, KPU criminology instructor and counsellor Simon Beck will explore the concept of compassionate conflict resolution and how it can help to strengthen relationships with co-workers, family and friends. Compassionate conflict resolution is a process of connecting with people in a way that allows everyone’s needs to be met.
Regular TALK courses take place at KPU campuses, including KPU Langley, 20901 Langley Bypass. For a full schedule of TALK events, including session overviews, times and locations, and presenter bios, visit kpu.ca/talk.
TALK events are aimed at those who are 50 or older. Most courses are $15, in addition to the $10 annual membership fee. There is a suggested minimum donation of $2 for each Philosophers’ Corner.
