Langley Community Music School (LCMS) is inviting the community to attend its annual Family Intro to Music Night on Tuesday March 21 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Hosted in the Rose Gellert Hall, the evening features a free performance of Prokofiev’s famed musical children’s fairytale Peter and the Wolf at 7 p.m. by celebrated chamber ensemble West Coast Chamber Music. Family Night also provides attendees with the opportunity to try out a variety of instruments, meet the teachers, and learn more about classical and popular music programs for students of all ages, including a new vocal course for teens and adults.
Peter and the Wolf will feature a narrator with piano and woodwinds, presented by West Coast Chamber Music performers Ross Curran, Holly Duff and Alan Crane. The characters in the story are brought to life by multidisciplinary artist, Angela Brown, using colourful body puppets, masks, dance, mime and pantomime.
“This is a great introduction to classical music,” said West Coast Chamber Music. “The combination of music and narration with theatricality, dance, masks, puppets and mime is a stimulating and educational experience for all.”
“Langley Community Music School’s Family Intro to Music Night is one of our most exciting nights of the year, where we open our doors to the community and invite families to enjoy this fun, interactive, informative and entertaining musical evening,” said LCMS principal Susan Magnusson. “Drop in for a little while, or stay for the entire event.”
This is the second in a series of free children’s concerts hosted by the Langley Community Music School with the support of the Metro Vancouver Cultural Grants Program.
The Rose Gellert Hall is located at 4899 207 St. For more information call 604-534-2848 or visit langleymusic.com.
