Dance to the feel good sounds of soul music at a concert/dance party that has been filling Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom for 14 years.
Motown Meltdown is returning April 8 for an evening of soul, rhythm and blues. Featuring a live 12-piece band, there will be 25 vocalists singing their favourite soul songs.
The event benefits Seva Canada, a non-profit whose mission is to restore sight and prevent blindness in developing countries.
Performers include Langley’s own Karen Lee Batten, along with Dalannah Gail Bowen, Joani Bye, Leora Cashe, Candus Churchill, Oliver Conway, Krystle Dos Santos, Olivia Steele Falconer, Roy Forbes, Angela Kelman, Linda Kidder, Khari Wendell McClelland, Jane Mortifee, Tom Pickett, Will Sanders, Kendra Sprinkling, Catherine St. Germain, Stephanie Standerwick, David Steele, Don Stewart, David Wills, Garfield Wilson and more.
Batten is the recipient of five BC Country Music Awards for Female Vocalist of the Year, and her last album, Cause a Scene, hit number one in Canadian album sales in the first month. She has also just returned home from Muscle Shoals, completing her fourth independent record with Aretha Franklin’s band at Fame Studios.
Another Langley resident, David Wills, will host Motown Meltdown with Angela Kelman. Tom Lucas will MC.
