Libraries celebrate literacy

NANAIMO - The Vancouver Island Regional Library is celebrating Family Literacy Day with various events around Nanaimo.

The Vancouver Island Regional Library is hosting a Family Literacy Day celebrations at various branches.

The Wellington branch’s event, aimed at children and their parents, is Saturday (Jan. 23) from 2-4 p.m. The event features nine-year-old singer-songwriter Stella Swanson, activities and snacks.

Gabriola Island’s branch hosts its event Wednesday (Jan. 27), 10:30-11 a.m. The event, suited for ages five and under, includes stories, songs and rhyme time.

Nanaimo North hosts an all-ages event Jan. 27, 3:30-4:30 p.m. The celebration features stories, songs and activities for family members.
