Rock Bottom, a feature film project by Lake Country filmmakers Wendy Ord and Glen Samuel, is one of 12 finalists chosen from across Canada to participate in the Whistler Film Festival’s China/Canada Gateway Competition.
Up to $15 million is on the table.
“We’re honoured and excited to have won a spot in this prestigious competition,” said Ord.
She and Samuel last produced, wrote and directed the film TORA, starring David Suzuki, which was partly filmed in Vernon and was shown on the international film festival circuit.
“Rock Bottom is a very different project than TORA,” said Samuel, “It’s a neo-noir post apocalyptic action flick that’s a ton of fun and will appeal to audiences both east and west.”
The couple has been writing and developing Rock Bottom for the past three years and attribute its strength to the support of Okanagan Film Commissioner Jon Summerland and local film and new media professionals.
As a finalist for the China/Canada Gateway Competition, designed to stimulate co-productions between Canada and China, the Lake Country filmmakers are up against projects with top notch writer/producer teams and some big production companies.
“Even making it to the finals is an incredible accomplishment and vote of confidence for Mountain Lake Films and Rock Bottom,” said Ord.
The competition takes place at the Whistler International Film Festival on Nov. 29.
