The Envision Twilight Concert Series continues with a Full Cupboard Friday on Aug. 9 from 7 to 8 p.m., as Madflower performs in Fraser River Heritage Park.
Based in Abbotsford, Madflower is a unique blend of thought-provoking lyrics, bluesy groove, and a tight live sound. Guitarist and lead vocalist Willis Taylor has been making music with drummer Steve Walsh for many years. The band was formed in 2000 with the addition of lead guitarist Eric Van Steenis, and new bassist Brad Davis now adds funky flair to Madflower’s performances.
While Madflower plays some covers, they are most focused on songs written by Willis, whose writing style has been compared to Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Van Morrison for his ability to tell stories, make you think and move your feet.
“This year Envision Financial has launched a new community program, The Full Cupboard, and we are excited Mission Heritage Association is partnering with us again to support children and families in our community,” said Carol Hamilton, manager of Envision’s Mission branch. “We hope concert-goers will donate to the program by bringing a non-perishable food item or cash donation on Full Cupboard Fridays throughout the summer. All donations benefit St. Joseph’s food bank.”
The Full Cupboard is an innovative community program designed to raise food, funds and awareness for food banks throughout the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and Kitimat. Through this program, Envision Financial has committed to raising at least $1 million for local food banks over the next 10 years.
Catch a preview of Rockin’ River Music Festival 2013 at the Twilight concert Aug. 14 from 7 to 8 p.m.
The Rockin’ River Music Fest will be at Mission Raceway Park Aug. 15-17. Headlined by major names in country music like Brad Paisley, Kenny Hess, and Emerson Drive, the festival’s schedule is packed with both stars and up-and-comers. The preview concert will provide a taste of what will be on offer at Rockin’ River, so pull on your boots and enjoy the show.
Twice weekly on Wednesdays and Fridays, bring a lawn chair or blanket and settle in for a range of live music at Fraser River Heritage Park. The Blackberry Kitchen and The Log Cabin Café are open. Admission to the concerts is free, but donations to this community-based series are appreciated and encouraged.
