Musician sets off on coffee house tour

Kamloops artist Benjamin Bermiller hits two Vernon establishments on his First Annual Coffee House Tour.

The song is all in how you deliver it, and in Benjamin Bermiller’s case, it doesn’t hurt to be wired on coffee to help move things along.

The young singer-songwriter from Kamloops is about to head through Vernon, not once, but twice on his first tour, which he is calling the First Annual Coffee House Tour, as most of the shows take place in, yep, coffee houses around the B.C. Interior.

“It is my first time playing in Vernon, and I would love to start a following there,” said the composer of close to 300 songs in the five years since he started performing music.

Bermiller is one of those multi-talented types.

He’s a musician, poet, dancer, actor, writer, and magician, and constantly develops his creativity by performing in shows, concerts, and street performances.

In 2009 and 2010, he performed as a dancer and singer in the Canadian Cabaret series, organized and created by B.C. Living Arts.

For the past 12 years, he has competed in the Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts in the dance, voice, and guitar categories, yielding many awards and recommendations for his performances.

In 2011, he helped found the band City of Sparks and went on to win the Revelstoke Music Festival Battle of the Bands.

Opportunities arose from that accomplishment, including working with several highly-esteemed producers. In addition to those opportunities, Bermiller was featured in several competitions and radio shows and released a single with City of Sparks on the Kamloops Food Bank’s Feed the Soul album.

Currently back to his solo work, Bermiller says he is more seasoned and centered in his own style, and is ready for his caffeinated stops through B.C.

Bermiller first plays the Bean to Cup coffee house on 27th Street at 39th Avenue, Saturday before returning this way to perform at the Talkin’ Donkey on 24th Street, in the north end of town, Aug. 10.

Both shows start at 7 p.m. and cover is $5.
