The Armstrong Spallumcheen Arts Council Society (SPARC) is about to unveil its new arts logo following the launch of a successful competition.
The winner of the logo contest will be announced at a reception at Armstrong’s newest business, The Wild Oak Cafe, located at 2539 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Friday at 7 p.m.
There will be appetizers and refreshments, accompanied by the live music of local quartet Sorella.
“The music made by the four sweethearts in Sorella is delightful and charming,” said Reg Kienast, SPARC president. “You will get to meet the logo winner and see his creation.”
The logo winner will also be presented with a prize valued at up to $200.”
Members of SPARC and all members of the public are invited to attend the free event.
The council is also launching its next event and is seeking submissions from local artists to participate.
Paint the Town, to be held May 25 and June 1, is in celebration of Armstrong’s centennial anniversary and will feature artists painting the city’s various heritage buildings.
The finished paintings will be displayed in various business locations around town.
“We are inviting submissions from all artists, working across all disciplines and at various stages in their career. We are committed to selecting a diverse representative sample of artists,” said Angela Passmore, SPARC board member.
The top 10 bids will proceed to a live auction during Armstrong’s Homecoming Celebration July 6.
“The remainder of the pieces will continue to accrue bids at the display location,” said Passmore, adding the council is offering $25 in supply fees to the first 25 entries.
Those artists wishing to apply can submit his/her name, address, phone number and e-mail to sparcartscouncil@gmail.com. Queries can be directed to the same e-mail. Submissions may also be mailed to 3030 Murison Pl. Armstrong, B.C., V0E 1B4.
SPARC will contact artists with details once submissions are received. The deadline for submissions is May 8.
