Nominations sought for Island music awards

NANAIMO – The deadline for musicians to enter the Vancouver Island Music Awards is approaching.

The deadline for musicians to enter the Vancouver Island Music Awards is approaching.

The theme for the 10th anniversary of the Island-based awards show is “The Song,” and the categories reflect that. Musicians 10 years and older are eligible to enter.

Island musicians can enter the following categories:

Youth Song of the Year;

Roots/Folk/Country Song of the Year;

Blues Song of the Year;

Jazz Song of the Year;

Pop Song of the Year;

Rock Song of the Year;

Hard Rock/Metal Song of the Year;

World Music Song of the Year;

Gospel Song of the Year;

Children’s Music Song of the Year;

Vocal performance of the Year;

Music Video of the Year;

Live Act of the Year.

Nominees will be announced in late October, and the gala to announce the winners – and showcase many performances by nominees – will be held in March (date and venue still to be determined).
