What kind of deep secrets do people share when they ingest the psychotropic medicinal plant ayahuasca?
TJ Dawe explores his journey of enlightenment and heartbreak during an ayahuasca retreat he attended with Vancouver addictions specialist Gabor Maté during his upcoming one-man play, Medicine. Ayahuasca is an Amazonian plant used in therapy
In Medicine, which Dawe also wrote, he recounts his journey to overcome obstacles that have held him back in his life and the discoveries he makes that change his life.
It examines people’s quest to understand themselves and the motivations that guide them through life.
The play is the third in a series of productions that were hosted by Nanaimo’s Fringe Theatre Festival leading up to it’s annual fringe event this August.
Dawe was born in Vancouver and received a bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Victoria in the 90s.
He began touring on the Canadian fringe circuit when he was still attending university and later delved into podcasting and blogging. He is an award winning writer, performer and director and co-wrote the play Toothpaste and Cigars, which was made into the movie The F Word.
Medicine shows June 13 at 8 p.m. at the Nanaimo Art Gallery. Tickets are $21 and are available at http://fringetastic.com.
