OSO explore Les Misérables, Phantom of the Opera

The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra is exploring some exciting pieces in their annual pop concert.

Two popular pieces are getting brought to life by the Okanagan Symphony orchestra in March 4 to 6.

The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra (OSO) presents their annual pop concert. This year music from Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables along with guest artists Peter Karrie, tenor, and the Okanagan’s own Melina Moore, soprano.

Music of the Night opens March 5 in Penticton.

“The music of the West End Londong Musical is front and centre for our pops program this season,” said Rosemary Thomson, music director for the OSO. “Celebrating the extraordinary music of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and friends, we are thrilled to present internationally celebrated tenor, Peter Karrie, and our own soprano star, Melina Moore, for an evening of greatest hits of the Broadway stage.”

From Phantom of the Opera, to Jesus Christ Superstar and Les Miserables, Karrie has been lauded around the world for his portrayal of the lead characters. He was voted best phantom ever by the International Phantom Society and the Vancouver Sun said his performance was “Definitive!”

Melina Moore’s love of musical theatre, Broadway and off-Broadway productions in which she has appeared as a principal artist include Good News, Showboat, The Apple Tree, Fiddler on the Roof, Guys and  Dolls, My Fair Lady, The Music Man, Annie Get Your Gun, Beauty and the Beast, Carousel, Candide and The Sound of Music. Concert/oratorio work in Canada includes the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, and Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, all with the Okanagan Vocal Arts Festival, The Faure Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Schubert Mass in B Minor, John Rutter’s Requiem and Carmina Burana, with the Prince George, Kamloops and Kelowna Symphonies, and a tribute to Webber with the OSO. She has performed with the Burnaby Symphony, Kelowna Canada Day Symphony Orchestra, Prince George Symphony, Symphony of the Kootenays, Kamloops Symphony and the OSO, and has been a featured artist on CBC Radio Two.

The OSO is the third largest professional symphony orchestra in B.C.;  entertaining residents of the Okanagan Valley and visitors from around the globe with symphonic music since 1960.
