It’s never too early or too late to pick up a paint brush and express your creative side.
Just ask the Kalview Group of Painters who are returning to the Vernon Community Arts Centre May 27 with their annual exhibition, Art Start.
The group of approximately 30 art students, who study in small classes of about five-to-six people with instructors Linda Edwards and Joan Rowan, have been honing their painting skills since early September and are holding the art show as a culmination of what they have accomplished during the year,
“For some of the artists, it will be their first time showing their work. For others, it will be old hat,” said Rowan, who teaches out her Coldstream-based studio overlooking Kalamalka Lake, hence the name of the group.
“We have been doing these shows for eight years and have one student who will be showing her work for the eighth time.”
The Kalview Group of Painters have learned a wide variety of techniques, and have painted a number of different subjects for this show, added Rowan.
“The students have worked hard to produce interesting, unusual, well-designed, well-planned pieces. There should be something of interest for everyone to see at the show. Most artwork will be for sale. All for-sale pieces will be reasonably priced.”
In addition, there will be a card table where artists will have cards for sale that have been made from their original art. A limited number of prints will also be available.
The exhibition in the VCAC, located at the east entrance to Polson Park, takes place from noon to 4 p.m. May 27. There is no charge for admission and everyone is welcome.
