Local pianist Jim Leonard is about to take Enderby and area residents on a journey through jazz.
Leonard will be performing solo, presenting his entertaining history of jazz at St. Andrew’s United Church Thursday, Nov. 7.
“This should be a wonderful evening musically,” said Diana Inselberg, vice-president of the Enderby and District Arts Council, which is sponsoring the concert.
A retired music teacher, Leonard has kept busy since moving to Vernon from Ontario. He has become a familiar face behind the keys, backing up a number of local entertainers, including vocalists Melina Moore, Tanya Lipscomb, and Judy Rose, who he has accompanied both individually and also in the trio, The Dharma Dolls.
Leonard also accompanied Moore and Welsh tenor Peter Karrie on their Phantom of the Opera tour around the B.C. Interior this past summer and has recorded a CD of favourite jazz and show tunes with Moore. He has also contributed tracks to a number of Lipcomb’s CDs.
Thursday’s concert with Leonard at St. Andrew’s, located at the corner of Belvedere and Regent in Enderby, starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are available only at the door and cost $15/adult and $10 youth/student.
