Doris and George meet once a year for a romantic tryst.
They have a deep emotional intimacy despite the brief annual encounter between them.
The two have met for nearly 25 years, but each of them also has a spouse they’ve kept in the dark about their other relationship.
The bond between Doris and George is explored in Bernard Slade’s romantic comedy Same Time, Next Year.
The play is being presented by TheatreOne and the Rotary Club of Nanaimo North Saturday and Sunday (June 8-9) at the Nanaimo Yacht Club. The production is a fundraiser for both organizations.
George is played by Tim Johnson. He trained at the Gabriola Island Theatre Centre and has performed in Relatively Speaking, Confusions and the films Billy Bishop Goes to War and Passion.
Doris is played by Nicole Busby. She has been on stage several times in Nanaimo, having performed many roles in plays by Western Edge Theatre.
The play is being directed by Leonie Gardner.
