Polish artist Misia Lukasiewicz is Vernon’s newest artist-in-resident for the Fresh!AiR art and environment-themed residency hosted by the Caetani Cultural Centre in partnership with the Allan Brooks Nature Centre.
During her six-week residency, Lukasiewicz will be working on a collaborative art project that focuses on Vernon residents and their landscapes.
She is seeking help from local residents to help her with her work, entitled Landscape Heritage.
“In Polish, the word landscape translates to mean image of a country, and the title of my residency project refers to the inalienable heritage which identifies us,” said Lukasiewicz.
Through her art, Lukasiewicz hopes to capture what homeland means for people living in Vernon.
“To accomplish this, I am looking to the community to help me fully explore the Vernon area and its inhabitants,” she said.
Anyone interested in helping Lukasiewicz is welcome to join her for a cup of coffee or to go for a walk.
“I would love to know how you perceive the landscape around you. Should we decide to work together, I will strive to capture a reflection of our interactions through various mediums such as painting, photography, land art and sketches,” she said.
Lukasiewicz will reveal the collaboration, along with the documentation and creative processes which led to her final work, at an exhibit and presentation Oct. 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Caetani Centre. The public is welcome to attend.
