Chemainus residents and visitors are invited to the grand opening of Rainforest Arts Aug. 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 9781 Willow Street.

“Artists and the public have shown enthusiastic support of this new venue that features over 40 Island Artists,” said Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society Chair Peggy Grigor.

“Islanders and visitors are all raving about the wide variety of artistic mediums, a favorable range of price points and the beautiful presentation of the goods.”

The venue launched July 1, expanding the CVCAS’s support and promotion of artists in the region. It is located in a retail space which is part of the Coastal Community Credit Union building.

Coastal Community will be providing refreshments inside the credit union, and the gallery will be open for viewing and shopping. Everyone is invited.

“It’s an ideal location for us. Rainforest Arts is right across the parking lot from Waterwheel Park, where we put on numerous musical evenings and festivals throughout the summer,” said Grigor.

“Our storefront will serve as the CVCAS headquarters, where information and tickets for all our events and performances will be available.”

Until now the CVCAS has not had a home to call its own, so the Rainforest Arts venue is a “huge asset” to the society, Grigor said.

Rainforest Arts is opened Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. During the summer the venue will be open Sundays from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
