Reel on the River opening Jan. 21

Non-profit film group brings five movies to SilverCity this season

Mission’s Reel on the River is returning to SilverCity this month with five new films.

The series opens Jan. 21 with Inescapable, a political thriller. This is an old-fashioned nail-biter set in the turmoil of present day Syria.

New Zealand’s Boy will be screened Feb, 4. This is a delightful coming of age tale, and was the highest grossing film in New Zealand of all time.

Stories We Tell from Canada’s own Sarah Polley will be showing on Feb. 18. This is a lively documentary on the real and imagined events of her parents’ marriage.

The fourth film on March 4 is Rebelle, Canada’s submission for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards. This is an extraordinary portrait of survival by a 14-year-old girl who was recruited as a child soldier in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The last film in this series will be on March 11. The title of the movie will be announced at a later date in order to bring the most recent films to Mission.

All films are shown on Monday evenings at 7 p.m.at SilverCity at the Junction Mall. A series pass for all five films is $35 or single tickets can be purchased at the door for $10.  Passes are now available at Murdoch’s Book Shoppe and Shopper’s Drug Mart in Mission, and at Jazz-Ma-Tazz in downtown Abbotsford.

Films are made available  to Reel On The River by Film Circuit. For more information, visit reelontheriver.ca.
