The last time Romanza paid a visit to Penticton, the turnout exceeded all expectations, with a thousand or more people packing Gyro Park for an outdoor concert.
Now, organizers with Penticton and District Community Concerts are hoping the three tenors can do it again when they arrive in town July 8.
Romanza is Philip Grant, Ken Lavigne and Paul Ouellette, three classically trained young singers — individually they have enjoyed rave reviews performing as soloists across North America and Europe; together they have performed over 200 performances from Whitehorse to Florida and Nova Scotia to California.
The three real life friends infuse their performances with their offstage camaraderie warming the audience with their intimacy and humour; both critics and audiences alike have described Romanza as expressive, accessible and fun.
In an effort to have this calibre of classical talent accessible to all, Penticton and District Community Concerts will request a donation during intermission rather than sell tickets.
“This is a unique opportunity for everyone to see classically trained, world renowned artists right here in Penticton. Truly, this will be an evening to remember,” said Barb Haynes of the Downtown Penticton Association.
The show starts at 7 p.m. with Penticton’s own FiddleKidz starting the show and local guitarist Kirk Dixon entertaining at intermission. Organizers recommend audience members bring a lawn chair and arrive early.
