Sabrina Weeks brings the blues

Sabrina Weeks and Swing Cat Bounce will bring the music to Gatzke's Farm Market July 8

It’s going to be a bouncing good time when recent Maple Blues Award recipient’s Sabrina Weeks and Swing Cat Bounce roll into Oyama’s Gatzke Farm Market on July 8 for an afternoon of bouncing boogie blues and barbecue.

The band has been named the best new blues act in Canada after winning the title of best new artist/group at the 2012 Maple Blues Awards.

While the front of the farm displays and sells the bounty of the orchard, the area behind the market provides an opportunity for guests to experience live music in the agricultural and natural paradise of Oyama, the “Jewel of the Okanagan.”

In 2010, Sabrina Weeks and Swing Cat Bounce released their debut CD Tales from Lenny’s Diner. The CD debuted at number one in Canada, number 12 globally on the Roots Music Report Blues Music charts, peaking at number six on the global blues charts in March 2011. Further, the CD made the top 100 RMR list for most radio plays globally for 2011. It has been rated in the top 100 new CDs released in 2010/2011 according to the Real Blues Top of the Charts report and voted as the number-one CD released for 2010 by CFBX and best new artist for 2010 by the Blues Underground. Also, Sabrina Weeks and Swing Cat Bounce sits at number three on the Sirius XM Picks to Click blues charts with their song Bad Boys being the most played song on B.B. King’s Bluesville for March 2011. Also, Sabrina Weeks and Swing Cat Bounce have been nominated by BCIMA for the Blues Album of the Year Award in 2011.

Sabrina Weeks and Swing Cat Bounce are an act that needs to be seen. The show is dynamic, and the grooves drive until you’re swinging, bouncing and getting your boogie on. The songs are light-hearted with a twist of naughty, the melodies are infectious, and it is abundantly apparent when watching this group that they truly love what they are doing.

Hailing originally from Kamloops, B.C., this group collectively makes up more than 100 years of musical expertise. In addition to Weeks, band members include Mike Hilliard, Ed Hilliard, Bill White and Ken Sell.

Sabrina Weeks & Swing Cat Bounce play Gatzke Farm Market July 8 at 5 p.m. Tickets are $10, and this is an all-ages show. The market is located on Highway 97 in Oyama, between Vernon and Kelowna. For more details, call 250-808-3628.
