She captivates with singing

Jazzy singer songwriter Flora Ware is coming to Joe's Garage in Courtenay on April 21.

Jazzy singer songwriter Flora Ware is coming to Joe’s Garage in Courtenay on April 21.

With hip jazz and original soul/pop, Ware captivates on lead vocals and keys, backed by smooth guitar and bass grooves.

Although Flora fell in love with the Comox area when she visited as a child for a family reunion, this is her first time performing here.

A bit of a musical chameleon, Flora’s live shows are enjoyed by many, no matter if their tastes are mainstream or alternative, pop or jazz.

“I love reinventing the standards and playing them for an older audience that know and love the songs, as well as introducing the music to a younger generation who are hearing them for the first time, through my interpretation,” she explains. “That’s why I never tire of vocal jazz, the story telling, the melodies, the history.”

It’s this love of the jazz vocal tradition that has naturally drawn comparisons to our homegrown jazz celebrity, Diana Krall, although you can also hear Flora sing covers by Norah Jones and even Alicia Keys.

Doors at Joe’s will open at 7:30, with music at 8. The admission price has now been adjusted to a sliding scale of $5 to 15.
