Sing along with these ski bums

Rossland’s Iron Mountain Theatre presents Ski Bums:The Musical at Silver Star Mountain Resort this Friday and Saturday.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a musical buff, ski bum, ski buff, or musical bum, Ski Bum: The Musical is a fast-paced, shredding good time for the whole family.

Produced by Rossland’s Iron Mountain Theatre, the show is touring ski towns all over the province, and will land in Vernon for a two-night run at Silver Star Mountain Resort Friday and Saturday.

A character-driven, seasonal-inspired homage to the dirt bags, debutantes, lurkers and posers constantly in search of bottomless pow, Ski Bum is a musical comedy that pokes fun of musical theatre while highlighting the trials and tribulations faced by a variety of mountain lovers.

The four-person cast, Jane Gaudet, Grant Waters, RJ Peters and Nadine Tremblay, play multiple roles that depict characters of mountain culture life in their purest form.

The play follows lead character Jeff Snowden, who needs to grow up a little, and act more responsibly if he wants things to go his way in adulthood. When an old flame at Big Snow Peak sparks a renewed interest in Jeff’s heart, he starts to consider the benefits of gaining a level of maturity.

With the help of cultural anthropologist, played by newest cast member Waters, studying the culture and practices of ski-bummery, and a sometimes-not-so-nice head of ski patrol, Snowden begins to see that he doesn’t have to give up skiing and having fun in order to evolve.

Written by Tyler Austin Bradley and Mark Pollard, with music by Tremblay and directed by Shane Snow, Ski Bum is jammed packed with hummable tunes that span a wide range of genres, jokes that run the gamut of humour from slapstick to high comedy, and 11 inspired musical performances.

The innuendo alone is enough to tickle even the most chafed of funny-bones.

The cast has also been hard at work on the release of their original soundtrack recording, which will be available for purchase at the show.

Ski-Bum: The Musical takes the stage at Silver Star’s National Altitude Training Centre Friday at 7:30 p.m. (Doors open at 7 p.m.) and Saturday at 8:30 p.m. (Doors open at 8 p.m.)

Tickets are $15 for adults and students, $10 for seniors 65-plus and children 12 and under, available from the guest services information desk at Silver Star Mountain, or call (250) 558-6079.
