Soprano Kiiri Michelson and pianist Frank Chu will perform at Hornby Island’s Community Hall today at 8 p.m.
The program will include songs by Fauré, Grieg, and Schoenberg, as well as piano works by Brahms, Debussy, and Schubert.
Michelsen recently completed the masters program in vocal performance at the University of Victoria.
Chu is on the keyboard faculty at Brentwood College and Minstrels Conservatory. He will perform on the very fine Bechstein piano the Hornby Festival recently acquired.
The concert is presented by MADDWEve (Musical Antidote to Dark, Dreary Winter Evenings), a group of Hornby Island residents intent on bringing live performances to the island during the winter.
They are sponsoring a series of concerts by talented students and recent graduates of the music programs at UVic and UBC.
This is the first of MADDWEve’s concerts. The next concert will be Echo Brass, a quintet from the University of B.C., on March 25.
