There’ll be foot stomping and fancy stepping Friday, May 6 at the Chemainus Gardens RV Park, which is hosting a family-friendly hoedown and square-dancing evening starting at 6 p.m.

Brought to you by the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society, the event will feature the mother-daughter team of Shiho Mizumoto on fiddle and Cello Mizumoto, a banjo player who grew up surrounded by old-time music and square dancing.

Music will be provided by Holler! – an authentic old-time string band with Dave Marshall on guitar and Noah Gotfrit on upright bass.

The square dance caller, Craig Marcuk, has been calling and organizing square dances in Victoria and throughout the Pacific Northwest for five years.

No experience is needed,” Marcuk says. “All dances are taught on the spot to live music.”

Food and refreshments will be available from 6 p.m. Pulled pork, chili and deserts will be served by CVCAS volunteers. Admission is $10 per person with children under 12 free.
