Storyteller brings Moby Dick to life

NANAIMO – Storyteller Dean Verger presents his adaptation of Herman Melville’s great American novel, Moby Dick.

“Call me Ishmael.”

With those famous words storyteller Dean Verger presents his adaptation of Herman Melville’s great American novel, Moby Dick.

Direct from his performance to rave reviews at the Ottawa Fringe Festival, Verger engages the audience in the story of one man’s epic, revenge-fueled obsession as Captain Ahab, aboard the ship the Pequod, hunts for the great white whale.

Verger came to the world of storytelling as a writer. He began by telling his own original works, then added traditional and literary tales for all ages to his repertoire. His work has been aired on CBC and CTV.

He has acted with Ottawa’s Theatre for Children, Ottawa’s Little Theatre, and the Orpheus Musical Theatre in Ottawa. He is also well-known for his acclaimed storytelling adaption of William Goldman’s The Princess Bride.

Verger has also given workshops on storytelling in schools, at festivals and as part of the Ottawa StoryTellers.

Verger performs The Story of Moby Dick as well as Newfoundland tales Saturday (Oct. 26), 7:30 p.m., at Nanaimo Yacht Club, 400 Newcastle Ave. Tickets $10. The event is sponsored by Nanaimo’s Around Town Tellers.
