Support local at Vernon Public Art Gallery’s jewelry party

Vernon Public Art Gallery has organized the first annual pARTy Gems jewelry party at the gallery Thursday, Feb. 7.

The Vernon Public Art Gallery has organized the first annual pARTy Gems jewelry party in celebration of the talented artisans who produce hand-made products available in the gallery’s gift shop.

“Jewelry is one of the most popular gifts on Valentines’ Day and the gallery would like to encourage everyone to shop local, support Okanagan artists, and be pleasantly surprised at the immense talent we have in the artwork produced by artists close to home,” said VPAG executive director Dauna Kennedy Grant. “All four artists featured at our event live right here in the Okanagan; from Vernon, Coldstream, Lumby and Kelowna.”

The artists will be present at the event, displaying their latest creations.

“Each artist creates art for others to enjoy each and every day in the form of jewelry,” said Kennedy Grant.

Susan Richards of Studio 410 creates works with an eclectic mix of classic and contemporary styles, often using re-purposed components including copper, stones, and vintage beads.

Lucho Vera Flores also incorporates stones into his gold and silver pendants and earrings, with precession and delicacy.

Maud Besson of Ecceterra Designs brings a unique approach to design in her chunky, bold accessories that make use of leather, metals and glass beads that is fresh and new.

Helene Tremblay shows evidence of patience and attention to detail in her elegant hand painted ceramic pendants.

“The VPAG gallery shop carries only unique, one-of-a-kind gift items, and jewelry is one of the many quality items we offer for sale,” said Kennedy Grant.

Everyone is welcome to attend Thursday’s event, which starts at 7 p.m. Meet the artists, browse the displays, enjoy food and drinks, and see the four exhibitions that are currently on display at the VPAG. Admission is $5 per person, which goes toward any purchases made at the event.
