Surrey senior named top star

Singer has chance at nationals

Crescent Gardens Retirement Community was overflowing with talent earlier this month, as close to a dozen competitors took part in the fifth annual Senior Star event.

Surrey’s Terry Kirstein, 79, walked away with top honours June 16, for his rendition of the Nat King Cole classic tune Mona Lisa.

Kirstein, who describes music as a way to “make people relaxed, happy and content,” now has a chance to compete at Senior Star finals in Toronto this fall.

Runners up at the regional competition, hosted by Chartwell Seniors Housing, included Dan Minor – who placed second at the national competition last year – and Dorothy Perkins.
