Surrey talk explores the evolution and alchemy in ceramics worldwide

White Rock's Don Hutchinson presents free discussion March 6 at Surrey Art Gallery.

What’s so important about white glazes? How did alchemists revolutionize ceramics? Why is there such a range of pottery in museums and galleries around the world?

On March 6 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Thursday Artist Talk speaker series at the Surrey Art Gallery, White Rock-based ceramicist Don Hutchinson will answer these questions and more by comparing the evolution of ceramics in China, Mesoamerica, Europe, and the Middle East from 4000BC to the present. By doing this, Hutchinson believes we will find common threads, and better understand how cultures evolve and relate to each other.

Admission to the discussion is free.

There will be time for questions and conversation during and following the talk. The event concludes by 9 p.m. and refreshments are provided.

The event is presented by the Surrey Art Gallery Association in partnership with the Surrey Art Gallery, and with support from the Arts Council of Surrey.
