Springwood Elementary School is putting on a production of The Jungle Book, but it’s not the well-known Disney version.
Music teacher Rosalyn Burn said this version of The Jungle Book is a musical written by English composer Geoff Edge who has family that lives in Parksville.
“This musical was written last year and I got it hot off the press,” Burn said.
There are about 115 students participating in the production, according to Burn.
Burn said several of the students know of Edge because he visited Winchelsea Elementary School a few years ago.
“When he was here, he dropped into the former Winchelsea Elementary School to teach one of his songs Hop on a Bike to the choir,” Burn said, adding that the school’s choir later sang
This adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s book incorporates a few new and different characters, but still has many of the well-known characters such as Bagheera and Baloo.
Springwood’s production of The Jungle Book is Friday, June 17 at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the school. The free concert is open to children and adults.
