April 16: Sweet Potatoe Brown, Cam Styles Trio at Open Stage

A new format for the popular Open Stage series in Cheminaus will be introduced April 16 at St. Michael’s Hall.

The doors will open at 6 p.m. with food and refreshments available. At 6:45 p.m. ‘sharp’ the open stage segment of the evening will begin, continuing until 8:15 p.m.

Then featured performers Shelley ‘Sweet Potatoe’ Brown and the Cam Stiles Trio take to the stage at 8:30 p.m. for an hour-long performance.

“You’ll be delighted with the bluesey, country, rocking style of this talented group,” says a release from the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society.

Admission is $5. People wanting to perform on the Open Stage should contact the CVCAS at openstage@cvcas.com or 250-246-1389.

There will only be room for four or five Open Stage performances per evening.

• April 17, First Annual 5K Elemental Run (Walk), Ladysmith Primary School. This leisurely event will take you, your friends and family around the beautiful neighbourhood of Ladysmith Primary School. A fundraiser, all proceeds go towards enhancing the learning experience in the school. Door prizes will be given out after the run, as well as age category prizes. • April 17, Sing For Water, 1 p.m. at the Quw’utsun Cultural & Conference Centre in Duncan. A water themed, musical community event put on by One Cowichan in partnership with Cari Burdett at the Lila Music Centre as part of Water Week, April 17 – 24.

• April 27 to May 1, Cowichan Valley Fine Arts Show, Island Savings Recreation Centre. Artists get to ‘showcase their artistic talents.’ Original artwork by students, emerging and professional artists, will be featured. All working in a range of mediums, including painting, photography, woodwork, pottery, textiles, jewellery, mixed media, sculptures and glass. General admission is $5.
