“Go big by going small.” That’s the philosophy behind a new art exhibition space in Okanagan Landing.
Launched by the Okanagan Landing Association board and located next to the Okanagan Landing Station House Museum at Paddlewheel Hall, the new art gallery is now open to the public and is no larger than a small bedroom.
“Who would have guessed that two of the highlights of Paddlewheel Hall this summer is a satellite museum featuring rail and Paddlewheel models of early Landing times and a gallery display of local art based on local themes?,” said Theresa Heinrichs, the gallery’s volunteer curator.
The diminutive sized gallery is a natural outcome from the tremendous amount of interest shown in the fall art shows at the Paddlewheel Hall the past two years, said Heinrichs.
The gallery is now showcasing 33 pieces of artwork, measuring 18-by-18-inches and smaller.
All the works are by Okanagan artists and have an Okanagan theme.
“(They make) a perfect for a little gift for that special person,” said Heinrichs, who has helped to coordinate the jurying of the small works by local artists.
The gallery is open until Sept. 1 during museum hours and admission is free. Both the gallery and museum are closed Sundays.
“In the future, the gallery will welcome visits from school groups and will include an educational component in the experience. History, art and the joys of recreation on the beach and in the park should be a real plus for visitors to Paddlewheel Park in Okanagan Landing this summer,” said Heinrichs.
