Lesley Tannen is motivated to step up to her easel every day after seeing how past and present artists turn pure pigment into evocative, visual reflections of life and thought.
On Thursday (April 3), as part of the Thursday Artist Talk speaker series at the Surrey Art Gallery, the White Rock-based artist will show how she uses pastels across a broad array of subjects, including flora and fauna.
After initially being frustrated by pastels, she discovered materials and methods that changed her attitude towards this versatile medium.
“Pastels in 2014 offer ways of working that rival other media, with few limitations – except your imagination,” she says.
The talk is free and begins at 7 p.m. There will be time for questions and conversation.
