Have you ever been asked, “Wow, how did you think of that?”
On Jan. 7 as part of the Thursday Artist Talk series at the Surrey Art Gallery, Abbotsford artist Tracie Stewart will share her perspective on how much science influences us and where “magic” comes in.
Hailing from the magical rainforest of Terrace, Stewart says she is “fiercely protective of the west coast and strongly aware of how a piece of art can influence the perception of the people.”
At the Surrey talk, attendees will discover what Stewart means by calling herself “an artist for the environment” and learn how nature, Zen philosophy and the magical rainforest of the Pacific Northwest inspire her work.
Stewart has been practicing art in B.C. and abroad for 30 years. Her primary tools are drawing, painting, acrylic and mixed media along with installations. She graduated from Emily Carr University of Art + Design and worked as a shop attendant in several professional print shops. More recently, she juried for the Fraser Valley Biennale as an executive member of the Chilliwack Visual Art Association and received a scholarship for the Toni Onley Artist Project in Wells, BC.
There will be time for questions and conversation during and following the talk, which starts at 7:30 p.m. and concludes by 9 p.m. Refreshments are provided.
