The Wailers celebrate Legend’s 30th anniversary

The Wailers will take to the stage Saturday at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre.

On the 30th anniversary of its release in 1984, The Wailers are touring and  performing the iconic album Legend in its entirety.

Named by Time as the best album of the 20th century and #46 on Rolling Stone’s 500 greatest albums of all time, Legend is also the best-selling reggae album of all time, with more than 30 million copies sold worldwide.

The Wailers will take to the stage Saturday at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre.

“Don’t miss your chance to see The Wailers perform,” said Brian van Wensem, the centre’s audience development co-ordinator.

“They will also perform other classics from their days with Bob Marley.”

Opening for the Wailers will be Shane Philip.

Winner of the 2012 best live act award at the Vancouver Island Music Awards, the tacit tones of Philip’s didgeridoo hold the power to still listeners into silence or encourage audiences to rise up in a tribal swell of intoxicating spirit.

Meanwhile, his hands will be skillfully juggling between shaking up rhythms with his aslatua, driving the dance floor with his djembe and sliding out grooves on his Weissenborn-style guitar.

Tickets for The Wailers are $46 plus tax and they are available at the Ticket Seller box office, online at ticketseller.ca or by calling 250-549-SHOW. Doors open at 7 p.m. Saturday and the show is at 8 p.m.
