Most locals know of the special outdoor theatre tucked on a farm in the wilds of Spallumcheen, but it turns out visitors are also discovering the charm of Caravan Farm Theatre.
The farm has just received a TripAdvisor certificate of excellence award.
The accolade, which honours hospitality excellence, is given to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on TripAdvisor, a travel website that assists customers in gathering travel information, posting reviews and opinions of travel-related content.
“We strive to offer our audience a memorable experience, and this accolade is evidence that our hard work is translating into positive reviews on TripAdvisor,” said Caravan’s general manager Sean Newton.
Hailed as a national treasure, Caravan Farm Theatre has been entertaining audiences young and old and from near and far since 1978.
The theatre, located west of Armstrong on Salmon River Road, offers both a winter horse-drawn sleigh-ride production, which often sells out during the weeks leading up to Christmas, and a just-as popular outdoor summer production, which is often a Canadian written play that follows a B.C.-related, historical and/or musical theme.
Other events, such as concerts, a farmer’s market and the Walk of Terror Halloween fright night, are held annually.
The TripAdvisor certificate of excellence is extended to qualifying businesses worldwide and only the top-performing 10 per cent of businesses listed on the site receive the prestigious award.
To qualify, businesses must maintain an overall rating of four or higher, out of a possible five, as reviewed by travellers on TripAdvisor, and must have been listed on the site for at least 12 months.
Additional criteria include the volume of reviews received within the last 12 months.
“The certificate of excellence award provides top performing establishments around the world the recognition they deserve, based on feedback from those who matter most – their customers,” said Alison Copus, vice president of marketing for TripAdvisor.
Caravan holds its summer production of Head Over Heels, written by farm alumnus Peter Anderson and directed by the farm’s artistic director Courtenay Dobbie, July 23 to Aug. 25.
