Rock.It Boy Entertainment proudly presents David James & Big River, a tribute to Johnny Cash, Sunday, October 14 at the Cascades Casino Summit Theatre in Langley.
The exciting concert series, Malt Shop Memories, brought to you by Rock.It Boy Entertainment continues delivering live music reliving the 50’s and 60’s. This time around, David James & Big River – A Tribute to Johnny Cash.
One of the world’s premier tribute artists, David James has the stage presence and the characteristic sound of JOHNNY CASH nailed down. With the look, the moves and the sound, he does Johnny proud as he recreates such hits as “Folsom Prison Blues”, “Ring of Fire”, “Hey Porter”, “Rock Island Line”, “Get Rhythm”, “The Long Black Veil”, “Daddy Sang Bass”, “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down”, “A Boy Named Sue”, “Man In Black”, “Walk The Line” and “Orange Blossom Special”.
Providing the voice of Johnny Cash in the film “My Father and The Man in Black”, David James proves he is the most authentic JOHNNY CASH tribute artist in the business. A living prodigy to one of history’s true phenomenons, he is . . . . . almost Johnny Cash!
In addition to Johnny’s traditional songs David James & BIG RIVER – a Tribute to Johnny Cash include Johnny’s crossover songs “Hurt” and “Rusty Cage”. This is a magnificent tribute to the man in black.
Adding to this already amazing performance will be a multimedia experience complete with an explosive HD intro plus a special screening of the trailer for “My Father and The Man In Black”. This unflinching film documents the inside story of ‘bad boy’ Johnny Cash, his talented but troubled manager, Saul Holiff, and a son searching for his father in the shadow of a legend. This is the intense personal adventure of director Jonathan Holiff as he pieces together the life of his late, estranged father, Saul Holiff, Johnny Cash’s long-time manager. He uses archival footage and dramatic re-enactments starting with Saul’s 2005 suicide to tell the real inside story. Glen Schaefer, The Sun calls “My Father and The Man In Black” “a clear-eyed retelling of a pivotal slice of music history”. Trista Devries, Toronto Film Scene raves, “The love child of ‘The Thin Blue Line’ and ‘My Winnipeg’, except it’s all true and told in Saul’s own words”. Asif Hameed, Cadence Canada exclaims, “A previously unseen view of Johnny Cash – and the results are simply spellbinding.” Kirk Haviland, Entertainment Maven concludes, “Much like this year’s also Brilliant ‘Marley’, this one should be a staple of the festival circuit”. Not necessarily meant to be prophetic, Kirk was right. Premiering earlier this year at the Toronto Film Festival and just appearing at the Vancouver International Film Festival as well as the Gotham Screen Festival, New York City, “My Father and The Man In Black” is set to begin an extensive European tour as it climbs the festival charts.
