WAG will be performing at the next Envision Twilight Concert on Friday, July 12 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Fraser River Heritage Park.

Since their inception in 1987, this a cappella group has performed all over British Columbia in a wide array of venues. They have delighted countless folks in evening concerts, as roving performers in Whistler, and on the main stage at the P.N.E.  They have shared their love of music with many thousands of students. Whether on trains, at festivals, in coffee shops or at the Vancouver Playhouse, WAG’s tremendous musicality, honest approach and infectious fun has something for everyone.

A WAG concert will make you laugh and make you cry. There will be finger-snapping favourites like Son of a Preacher Man and Sixty Minute Man. You’ll hear sweet and well-crafted original songs like Good Night for Stars and East Van Anthem.

The Bob Lily Jazz Quintet returns to the Envision Twilight Concert Series on Wednesday, July 17 from 7 to 8 p.m.

The Bob Liley Jazz Quintet was formed in the spring of 2008 with the principal purpose of playing some of the many regional jazz festivals that take place across B.C. every year. Since its formation, the quintet has been featured at various events around the Lower Mainland, including Jazz Vespers at St. Andrews-Wesley church, as well as a segment on CBC’s Hot Air jazz program.  In addition, they have been featured at Davie Day, an outdoor street festival in Vancouver’s lively west end; played the Olympic Torch relay in 2010; and featured several times at The Cellar, Vancouver’s premier jazz club.

The group plays contemporary jazz, with influences such as Max Roach/Clifford Brown, Freddie Hubbard, the Cannonball Adderley quintet, and Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. The quintet makes stimulating and groovy music that showcases the individual talents of its members while building on the inherent synergies across the group. Their obvious camaraderie, energy and enthusiasm are infectious.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket on Wednesdays and Fridays and settle in for a range of live music at Fraser River Heritage Park. The Blackberry Kitchen and The Log Cabin Café are open. Admission to the concerts is free, but donations to this community-based series are appreciated and encouraged.

“This is our 13th year of partnership with the Mission Heritage Association,” said Susan Byrom, manager of community investment at Envision Financial. “We’re very excited to once again showcase some of the amazing talent Mission has to offer.”
