VCMS students earn scholarships

A total of 20 scholarships and more than $5,000 has been awarded to Vernon Community Music School students.

A total of 20 scholarships and more than $5,000 has been awarded to Vernon Community Music School students.

The students showed off their skills, musicality, and abilities to perform competitively to an appreciative crowd and four judges at the school’s scholarship recital May 7.

Scholarships were awarded to strings, piano, voice and winds students.

Recipients of the scholarships included Marcus Coetzee, Angela Zeng, Julien Haynes, Ann Lee, Anastasia Martens, Libby Wyse, Jaylene Odagiri, Indigo Freeman, Sean Morgan, Megan van den Maagdenberg, David Li, Jennika Bobryk, Robyn de Wet, Mathias Jones, Anna Konrad, Simone Konrad, Holly McCallum, Owen Sunderland, Jenny Sunderland and Mika Garlick.

“The  VCMS would like to thank the generous contributions of the scholarship (and) donors who support this wonderful event,” said facility coordinator Carol Odagiri.

Scholarship contributions came from Heartwood Homes, Patti Brenner Memorial Scholarship, Drs. Mathias and Lora Fellenz, Mori family, MQN Architects, Nixon Wenger, Kal Tire, Jaclyn Reimer Vocal Scholarship, David and June Rempel,  Sanssouci Quartet, Vernon Community Singers, Caroline Galbraith Memorial Scholarship, Hurlbert Memorial Scholarship, George Shaw Memorial Scholarship, Olive Woodley Memorial Scholarship, Reekie, Kineshanko, Tulloch Memorial Scholarship, and the Peter and Pauline Legg Memorial Scholarship.
