Voices will be springing up in Vernon when the city hosts the B.C. Choral Federation’s annual Chorfest in May.
“We have called our event Chorfestivity! because we intend to have a rip-roaring good time,” said Elizabeth Scott, with the local Chorfest committee. “Singers from all over the province will be coming to this weekend and the Vernon Performing Arts Centre will be full to bursting with singers young and old.”
A concert, open to the public May 17, will feature the Chorfest Choir, directed by Rosemary Thomson, music director of the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, the Children’s Chorfest Choir, directed by Sarona Mynhardt of the White Rock Children’s Choir, and the British Columbia Youth Choir, directed by Jon Washburn, director of the Vancouver Chamber Choir.
The host choir specially formed for this occasion, Vernon Voices, is composed of 120 singers from the North Okanagan. The event is being run by a joint committee from three Vernon choirs: AURA Chamber Choir, Counterpoint Choir, and the Vernon Community Singers.
